Remembering Pastors’ Center Senior Fellow Dr. Jim Shaddix

A few years ago, I wrote a blog post entitled, “10 Markers of the Best Spiritual Leaders I Know.” I thought about that post as I and our Southeastern Seminary family are both grieving and rejoicing over the passing of our friend, Dr. Jim Shaddix. Dr. Shaddix, who was one of the finest preaching professors I’ve ever known, went to be with the Lord on February 1 after a year-long battle with brain cancer. You can read more of his story at this page on our SEBTS website: “A Life Remembered: The Fulfilled Hope of Jim Shaddix.”

Dr. Shaddix served as the director of the Center for Preaching and Pastoral Leadership early in his time at SEBTS, and he was our Senior Fellow of the Center until the time of his passing. I will always remember him as one of the godliest, most faithful, most humble men I have ever known. He simply walked with Jesus and challenged others to do the same. He lived to make the name of Jesus known, and he met that goal in a remarkable way each time he preached.

In honor of our brother, we will be re-posting some of his writings for the Center over the next few weeks. As you read them, say a prayer for Dr. Shaddix’s family—and pray that all of us will always point to Jesus as Dr. Shaddix did.
